WORK WITH US GUIDE
To enable us to serve you better, here are some things to consider prior to contacting us. We can help you with any or all of the following.
-
Target markets:
-
What style do you consider your music?
-
What do you know about your current fans (e.g. age, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, financial demographic other interests, etc)?
-
How would you describe your overall persona in the minds of fans? In marketing we would call this your “brand”.
-
What challenges have you encountered in reaching new fans?
-
-
Goals:
-
What are your goals for your current releases?
-
What are your long term career goals as a musician?
-
What strategies have you been using to reach those goals so far?
-
How successful have those strategies been?
-
What tools and business relationships do you think you need to accomplish your goals?
-
-
Following is a quick guide to possible marketing tools and other products. Consider what you think might be useful in reaching your target audience.
-
Music videos: A good music video is a piece of art in and of itself, a visual reinforcement of the emotional truth of a song and a representation of your artistic persona. A music video can be simple or complex but it must fit the music and help you to create a connection with your fans. Regardless of your budget, we recommend that you take care and thought in planning your video and your long term music video strategy.
-
Concert Videos: While these are technically music videos, they are also meant to give fans a taste of the excitement they might feel when going to a live concert.
-
Documentary Videos: These are biographical videos intended to give your fans a more personal look at who you are as a person and an artist and to form greater affinity with you.
-
Social Media videos: What is your strategy for how you communicate with your fans through video on social media?
-
Promotional Photos: Photos of you, your band etc.
-
Professional Photos: It is important to have some high quality promotional photos of you and your band for general use. A headshot, band photo, in concert photos etc. What is your strategy for these photos and how well do they fit your “brand”.
-
Social media photos: What is your strategy for your more personal social media photos.
-
-
Press releases: These are short written documents that are sent to news organizations in the hopes that someone will do a story on your each concert, album, song or music video release, or on you.
-
Press releases follow industry standard formatting conventions and content rules so that reporters take them seriously and can easily read them.
-
There are also industry standard ways of properly distributing press releases so that they are seen by media outlets..
-
-
Press Kits: Multi-page, graphically weighted documents, usually presented in a presentation style format. They are used to help reporters and reviewers to determine whether to do a story. They are also expected by most booking agents, many concert venues (such as festivals) etc. They can be physical or electronic (known as EPK for Electronic Press Kit). Collecting the material for this first will help you in all areas of distribution.
-
Merch: Do you have a merchandising strategy and merchandise related to your music and brand that fans really want?
-
Sponsorship potential: Do you think have the potential for brand sponsorship?
-
Licensing: Do you think your music has the potential for inclusion in movies, tv shows etc? How about corporate videos and commercials?
-
Social Media: Do you have an effective social media strategy and the skills to run social media campaigns effectively?
-
Overall Brand: Back to you Brand or Artistic persona, Have you identified your brand as a musician and how to effectively use it to connect with and form community with your fan base? Do you have a website, headshots and other general marketing tools. Are they being used to their full potential? Are they of professional quality? Do they stimulate interest in your brand?
-
-
Other considerations:
-
Have you maximized the market potential of your music?
-
Have you considered micro transaction residual revenue sources?
-
Have you formed effective brand partnerships creating incentives for others to promote your work?
-
